2018 NYC Rides

The weather is a tease right now. One minute it’s warm and exciting to be outside, but the next minute it’s cold and windy. We’ve made it out for a few rides thus far, but we do want to do more. We’ve done three rides thus far:

  1. Coney Island: This tends to be the Brooklyn season opener. It is a nice easy ride to the beach. Coney Island has rejuvenated over the years and it is always an exciting first ride. As usual, we enjoyed our tour along the water and Belt Parkway. People were out enjoying the first really warm day. We reached the boardwalk and found ourselves at the usual place, drinking a frozen drink. Yes, it’s official, we’ve begun riding in Brooklyn.
  2. Brooklyn Bridge Park (DUMBO): Our second ride in Brooklyn was to the opposite side. Riding to Brooklyn Bridge Park is also a great way to break in the season. Coney Island represents one body of water and Brooklyn Bridge Park represents the other. They are two different experiences but both offer a pleasurable reward and an easy ride. It is a flat ride with good bike lanes. At the park, there is plenty to do but the great pleasure is to find a place to relax and enjoy the sun.
  3. BQM: Three Boroughs Tour: Our third ride is the beginning of longer rides in NYC. This one gets us out of Brooklyn and across the bridges. We rode through Brooklyn into Queens on the Pulaski bridge, then took the Queensboro bridge into Manhattan, and finally the Brooklyn Bridge back to Brooklyn. The first ride on the Brooklyn Bridge reminds us that it is too crowded and we should avoid all the tourist that spend so much time not paying attention to where they’re walking. It is a good exercise in patience and assertiveness.

We have just begun and we will continue to update the map of our NYC rides. So, check back to see how the map changes over the year. Each color represents a different ride.
